Explore World Language Education at the ACTFL Conference
Did you know that only 1 in 5 students were enrolled in a foreign language course during the 2014–2015 school year? A recent study[i] conducted by the American Academy of Arts & Sciences found that monolingual students are at risk for social and economic disadvantages in our increasingly multilingual and global society. In an effort to make foreign language instruction more available to educators and students, Fuel Education is honored to be a part of the annual ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) conference this month.
The conference will be held Friday, November 17, through Sunday, November 19, at Music City Center in Nashville, TN. ACTFL brings together language educators to provide them with 800+ inspiring sessions on innovation, researched practices, and emerging topics in the world language domain. In preparation for the upcoming event, we’ve put together a list of tips to make your weekend at ACTFL worthwhile!
- Map Out Your Weekend
With a weekend as full as this one, you’ll want to pinpoint the sessions that interest you the most beforehand to maximize your time at ACTFL. This year the conference will feature an expansive list of topics ranging from how to incorporate cultural awareness into instruction, to connecting classrooms and study abroad opportunities for students. While you’re exploring the possible sessions, set goals for yourself and your school or district to help kick start or improve your world language initiatives. If your goals include networking, make a list of who you want to meet and find out their schedule during the conference.
