Case Study: International Newcomer Center, Milwaukee, WI

May 17, 2018

The Milwaukee Public Schools International Newcomer Center is a dedicated program that provides intensive English language instruction and cultural support to newly arrived, non-native English-speaking refugee children in grades 4–8.

With the aggressive goal for students to achieve English language proficiency in two years or less, the Newcomer Center piloted a blended learning program based on Fuel Education’s Middlebury Interactive Languages™ English Language Learner (ELL) online supplemental curriculum in the summer of 2016. After observing that students’ retention of vocabulary and grammar was noticeably improved, the Newcomer Center adopted the Middlebury Interactive ELL curriculum for the 2016–2017 school year.
