Functions Use this guide to accompany Lesson 6.03, Semester A. LESSON GOALS • Determine whether a relation is a function. • Define function inputs and outputs. • Evaluate a function using its graph, table, or equation. FLORIDA STANDARDS • MAFS.8.F.1.1 understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output. • MAFS.8.F.1.2 compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions). PACING One class period, approximately 60 minutes LEARN MATHCAST: FUNCTIONS In this MathCast, Keisha says she cannot do two different activities at the same time. Similarly, a function cannot have two different y-values for the same x-value.
