PACING One class period, approximately 60 minutes LEARN MATHCAST: NEGATIVE EXPONENTS This MathCast video begins by relating the decreasing pattern of a knitted shawl to that of negative exponents. The pattern students learned for positive exponents is extended to negative exponents. The video introduces students to a general rule for negative exponents by pointing out that they could have made the exponent positive and moved it to the denominator.
